The OFM Social Media Manager Role, Explained
What social media posters actually do for creator agencies, which platforms matter, what the output expectations are, and how the role is paid.
Chatting converts subscribers. Social media creates them. The social media poster role is the traffic engine of a creator agency, and it is consistently one of the hardest positions for agencies to fill well.
What the job involves
You run a creator’s public accounts to drive people toward the paid page. Day to day:
- Producing and scheduling short-form video, usually the largest share of the work.
- Writing hooks and captions that survive the first two seconds of a scroll.
- Participating in trends quickly enough that they are still trends.
- Managing multiple accounts, often across platforms, sometimes across several creators.
- Reading performance and adjusting rather than posting on autopilot.
The output reality
This is a volume role. A single account may need several posts a day across platforms, and agencies typically measure you on consistent output plus growth, not on individual post performance.
The common failure is quality collapsing under volume. People start strong, then output becomes mechanical, engagement falls, and the account stalls. Sustaining both is the actual skill.
Platform literacy matters more than experience
Agencies care far less about years of experience than about whether you understand what each platform currently rewards. That changes constantly. Someone who actively uses these platforms and pays attention to why things perform will usually outperform someone with a longer CV and stale instincts.
If you have grown an account of your own — any account, any niche — say so in your application. It is the single most persuasive thing you can include.
Content restrictions
Public platforms have rules, and creator marketing sits close to the line. A good social media poster understands what gets an account restricted or banned and works inside those limits deliberately. Getting a creator’s main traffic account removed is expensive, and agencies screen for judgement here.
How it pays
Unlike chatting, this role is more often a flat rate or monthly retainer than commission — the results are slower and harder to attribute to a single action. Performance bonuses tied to subscriber growth are common on top.
Rates vary with how many accounts you run and whether you are producing content or only scheduling it. Producing is worth more.
Who does well
People from social media management, content creation, or marketing backgrounds. Also people who have simply spent years understanding these platforms as users and can articulate why something works.
What does not translate well: static-image graphic design, long-form video, or traditional advertising instincts. This is a fast, native, high-volume format.
Applying
We place social media posters alongside the other OFM roles. The application asks about the platforms you know and the accounts you have worked on.
