Remote OFM Jobs: Every Role, Explained

Chatter, social media poster, account manager and upper management — what each OFM role actually does, what it pays, and which one fits your background.

Most people discover this industry through a single job ad and assume “chatter” is the only role that exists. It is not. Creator management agencies run several distinct functions, and they hire for all of them.

Here is the full picture, so you can apply for the role that actually matches what you are good at.

Chatter

The best-known role, and the largest by headcount. You handle direct messages on a creator’s account, writing in their voice to subscribers who have already paid.

Core skills: conversational writing, sales instinct, memory for detail, shift reliability.

Suits people from: customer support, telesales, hospitality, community moderation.

Pay: usually hourly plus commission, or commission only. Covered in depth in our guide to chatter pay.

Social media poster

Traffic generation. You run the creator’s public-facing accounts — short-form video, image posts, captions, trend participation — to drive subscribers to the paid page.

Core skills: platform literacy, hook writing, understanding what a specific algorithm rewards this month, high output.

Suits people from: social media management, content creation, marketing, anyone who has grown an account of their own.

Pay: more often a flat rate or retainer than commission, though performance bonuses on subscriber growth are common.

This role is genuinely undersupplied. Agencies consistently struggle to find people who can produce volume without the quality collapsing.

Account manager

The link between the creator and the team working their account. You own performance for one or several accounts.

Core skills: reading analytics, prioritisation, direct communication with creators, and diagnosing why a number moved.

Suits people from: account management, client services, operations.

Upper management

Team leads, chat managers, operations managers. You run the people running the accounts.

Core skills: scheduling, quality control, hiring and training, handling underperformance, holding a team together across time zones.

Suits people from: any management background. Prior OFM experience helps but is not always required for people who have genuinely led teams.

Pay: typically salaried, the highest of the roles listed here.

Which should you apply for?

A rough guide:

  • You write well and enjoy conversation → chatter
  • You understand short-form platforms and can produce constantly → social media poster
  • You are organised and comfortable owning a number → account manager
  • You have managed people before → upper management

Applying for the role that fits beats applying for the one with the most listings. Agencies screen for fit, and a strong application for the right role beats a stretched one for the wrong one.

Before you apply anywhere

Whichever role you go for, the checks are the same. No legitimate agency asks you for money. Pay structure should be in writing before you start. And if there is no assessment at all, be cautious — agencies that do not screen usually do not pay well either. More on that in spotting fake OFM job ads.

Applying through us

We place all four of these roles. The application asks which you are going for and includes a short assessment relevant to it.
